White Crow
White Crow
- What is your name and what city do you rep?
My name is Skylar Marse aka White Crow and I rep Salt Lake City, UT
- What is unique about you and your music?
I feel like what is unique about me and my music is what I talk about, I try to help better people lives through my music. I try to inspire and help people be aware of the messed up society we live in.
- What shaped your music?
My emotions and life experiences shaped everything about my music. I started writing when I was around age 11 because it was a way for me to cope with my mom going to prison, music really helped with the changes in my life and writing my emotions down quickly became something I did in every situation.
- When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
It wasn't until I was in high school and got the opportunity to help build a professional studio inside for the students to use. Once it was built I was able to record my first mixtape and even though it wasn't the greatest, I had the most fun creating it and the reactions I got from all my classmates and friends were enough to say this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
- What type of music do you listen to?
I mostly listen to underground hip hop and rap but I'm a lover of all music, I see and appreciate the art and hard work every artist puts into their craft.
- Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
I think that Grieves from Rhymesayers entertainment is very undervalued, He's been in the game for so long and is a really good lyricist and even though he gets a few hundred thousand plays, his music, in my opinion, should have millions.
- How do you prepare for your performances?
First I make sure my track outs are exactly as I want them, then before the show starts I go over every track in order at least twice, then once the show starts I just go for it. Your energy and confidence is key to good performances.
- What ignites your (song) writing flow?
Well a few different things, sometimes I get inspired off of hearing a really dope song, other times it's when I and my homies are free-styling and I have one of those moments where everything just clicks and I start writing.
What do you do when you don't do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
Strangely enough, I'm really big into politics and I like to keep informed of what's going on in the world, I love learning about the Universe and one day once I've retired from this music thing id love to become a Professor in Astro Physics. In reality, I'm quite the average Joe, I'm a person like each and every one of you, I love camping, longboarding, playing with my dog, spending time with my loved ones and just enjoying the time I've been blessed with.
- Success to you is...
Being able to thrive off of doing what you love.
- What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help anyone recently starting artists out?
Perfectionism is a curse, nothing is or ever will be perfect. Do your best to make it sound good but once it does, don't over think it. Drop that shit.
- Any upcoming projects?
I just released an album on May 4th called "Forever Woke" it's available on all streaming platforms. The next one is coming really soon.
- Where do we find your music/music project?
