NEVEAH

 Bayonne, NJ.

  • What is your name and what city do you rep?
My name is Neveah (pronounced Nuh-vay-uh, not Nivea like the lotion lol) & I represent Bayonne, NJ.
  • What is unique about you and your music?
What is unique about me is that I consider myself an artist rather than focusing on labeling myself as a rapper and a singer. I'm creative in both genres and I strive to sound like Neveah and not anyone else. I also have a background in theater so I like to get animated in my flows, but I can get gritty as well.
  • What shaped your music?
Emotions shape my music. I've always said I write my BEST songs when my heart is broken lol. Also, my past shapes my music; things I've witnessed, things I took part in. I make sure any ill energy I feel, I take it out on the paper that way it resonates with my listeners in a vulnerable way.
  • When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
Professionally? Since 2011, I've been apart of a music team based in Newark, N.J. named 'SoundClique' and I've been rolling with them ever since. Now, taking it seriously? That's a different answer lol. I realized I wanted to take it serious when I decided to stop putting my dreams & goals aside for people and things that weren't contributing to the progression of my music career. Over this past year, I've sky rocketed.
  • What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to Hip Hop/ Rap/ R&B, Neo Soul, Alternating R&B , Chill Hop, Lofi Hip Hop, the list goes on. I'm very eclectic which makes for a better ear as an artist, in my opinion.
  • Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?
There are TONS of brilliant music artists out here that don't get the credit they deserve and it's truly sad, but I'd have to say Kendrick Lamar, Roddy Rich, Rod Wave, Childish Gambino & Lil Dicky.

  • How do you prepare for your performances?
Being an actress, I've been on stage all my life so I live for performances. As an entertainer, you got to make sure your stamina is on point. (No one wants to hear you huffing & puffing on the mic lol.) So I workout the hardest when I know I have a show coming up. I also go on vocal rest 3 days prior to make sure my voice is right- clarity is key! And last, make sure I'm on time for mic checks! Lol
  • What ignites your (song) writing flow?

What ignites my flow on a song is honestly how connected I feel to the beat. I usually know within the first 7 seconds of a track if I can work with it or not, rapping or singing.

  • What do you do when you don't do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I'm a full time group fitness trainer/motivator and I'm extremely passionate about that. I get to change & even save peoples lives mentally & physically so that they live healthier and happier lifestyles. It's extremely rewarding. I teach young teens and adults Musical Theater at a dance studio in my hometown. There's something very special about seeing the same spark you have, in others. You get to witness the flowers bloom! I am a Stepping Coach for my Step Team, The "Sole" Steppers & I am a Heels Instructor. I also have been Bellydancing since I was 13 years old. As you can see, I'm a "Jane of all trades" lol
  • Success to you is.....
Success to me is remaining in alignment with your true self, being comfortable in your own skin, doing what you love to do and receiving the praise you deserve while doing it. Like Jhené Aiko said, "Happiness Over Everything".
  • What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help anyone recently starting artists out?
I would say to do ALL research pertaining to promotion for your music and whatever you invest into yourself make sure it's going to be worth it in the long run, not just a temporary kick. I have no regrets because everything is a learning lesson. Also, to expect to rock alone and be content with it. Learn the game so you don't have to wait on anyone else for approval. Be your biggest fan and be your OWN validation!
  • Any upcoming projects?
I've been posting Freestyles on my IG once every week to provide content to my listeners. I recently released a single that's available on all digital platforms called 'Figure It Out' featuring Arsonal Da Rebel, who is my all time favorite battle rapper. That single will be on my EP, 'Rising Phoenix' which will be released 5/29/2020 so keep it locked in & wait for the drop!
