Bad Mama Lisa

Atlanta,Georgia - Zone 3

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is MonaLisa all one word. Or some fans have given me the nickname "MamaLisa". "BadMamaLisa" if you nasty. I rep Zone 3 Atlanta, Ga. But I grew up in Brooklyn until my 10th Birthday. Practically born in NYC. My Mother is from South Korea and my Father is from GUYANA. *Insert gun shot sounds here* So I'm Asian and Caribbean (crazy) basically.

What is unique about you and your music?

I think what's unique about me and my music individually is for one, my look. I have a very unique look and personality that work together well (sometimes, lol). And my music, I love every genre ... But I especially love Pop and Alrernative. With that being said. I was raised between Brooklyn and Atlanta. So I love 808's and trap music. If it doesn't have a bass I don't want it.

What shaped your music?

My Spirituality for sure. That's the foundation ... Then what grows from that is my experiences, good or bad. Mainly bad though. That's why I don't think I could ever put the mic down to neither Rapping, or to Singing. I can't pick one. Rapping hold my 'negative' attributes in my story telling, my cocky side, my rage ... My singing is my Soul song ... Like a butterfly flowing through the frequencies.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I realized that when I was about 16 years old. I started training my body and lungs to be a performer. Gym 4-5 days a week, and believe it or not I used to smoke Black And Milds to get my voice raspy. Made me sick and all! Lol! I don't do it anymore but, hey. Now I'm grown and smoke green instead of brown! Ya feel me!

What type of music do you listen to?

I was raised off of Reggae, Soca, and Dancehall. But I always loved Pop/Alternative. That's what I can listen to all day. My Mother listens to Indian, K-Pop, and Reggaeton and Bachata. I like Rock and Roll too!!! I have a real soft spot for Jazz and Classical as well. I love everything as long as it's a good body of music. You know? A good sound.... Art.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

To be honest... I can't say that anymore. All my people finally are getting put on. And I'm really happy to be able to say that. And I act like I know these ppl! Lol. But before I would say DaBaby. Wasn't enough recognition to me. For him, or for Kehlani. But, I digress.

How do you prepare for your performances?

Running! I run and meditate a lot. I love Martial

Arts. I cut out smoking for a week before the show, and I just really get into myself. I feed off of my own old energy. What I mean by that is, I sit down either in my LC500 or in a studio speaker filled room and for hours every day just sit and listen to all my music back to back. I've listened to each song 8,000 times and I just keep listening. The way a fiend would hold onto every note from their favorite song. In order to be a Powerful PERSON period, you must know how to influence the room. Can't do that if you don't know what waves/vibes you give. Then from there you grab a pen and paper and pick how you want your performance to go in general.

What ignites your (song) writing flow?

Passion. Whether I'm really mad or really happy, or sometimes just really sad... That's what does it. If I don't feel that "fire". The pen ain't ready yet.

What do you do when you don't do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I write movies and TV shows... I write books... I draw art sketches a lot. I paint a lot. I love to read books and watch documentaries. I can live off that. Lol

Success to you is...

Balance.

What do you wish you were told when you first started rapping that you think would help anyone recently starting artists out?

You'll never be ready. With that being said, hurry the fuck up. Just do it. All of my songs are recorded on my phone in my Lexus 2018 LC500. Cause that's all I could walk from my label with. Music gone, beats gone. We too spoiled. Think shit gets handed to us. Nah. Sometimes we gotta punk ourselves and take IT from OURSELVES. Til this day I still can't believe I Engineered, Produced, Wrote, Recorded, Mixed and Mastered ALL my songs by myself on my phone, with no teaching. No prior knowledge. Just pressing buttons and utilizing talent. Check out the link in my Instagram Bio! @OfficialBadMonaLisa

Any upcoming projects?

MY MIXTAPE DROPS MAY 23rd, 2019!!!!! I also have about 6 features that are still cooking, all in different stages of being ready but I can't wait to share the mixed art. And I have another performance next month, details coming soon!

Where do we find you music / music project?
